PICKIN’ FOLK · EFFECTIVE OCTOBER 1, 2026
Privacy Policy
Consider this the guide to your data: it explains how Pickin’ Folk collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use our website, mobile apps, and music community services.
Anonymous usage statistics
When you use Pickin’ Folk while signed in, the app records anonymous usage statistics: which screens are opened, which feature categories are used, and counts, such as how many musicians were shown in a search. Each event carries only a random session identifier that is created when the app opens and is not saved on your device. Events are not stored with your account, name, email address or any jam identifier, and we use them only in aggregate to improve the service. They never include message text, exact locations, contact details, authentication tokens or payment data. We do not use cross-site advertising trackers.
Usage statistics are on by default. You can turn them off at any time under Profile → Your data, which stops collection from your account. Because stored events are not linked to your account, we cannot identify or delete the events a particular person has already shared.
Operational aggregate counts, such as confirmed RSVPs and jams created, help us understand whether the service is useful. A confirmed RSVP does not verify real-world attendance. Your discovery profile is opt-in. Approximate distance uses rounded city coordinates. Exact jam directions are available only to the host and musicians who have confirmed they are going.
Website visitor statistics
When you visit pickingpost.com without signing in, we count page visits with Umami, a privacy-focused analytics service. It does not use cookies or store identifiers on your device, and it does not track you across other websites. It records the page visited (with invite codes and other identifiers removed), the referring website and campaign tags, clicks on a few buttons such as sign-up and app download links, your browser, operating system and device type, and an approximate country and region. Umami uses your IP address to estimate that location and to tell visits apart without storing the address itself. We see only aggregate statistics, such as how many people visited a page.
Visitor statistics stop once you sign in, where the anonymous usage statistics described above apply instead. They are not collected in the mobile apps, and they are not recorded if your browser sends a Do Not Track signal.
1. Information we collect
We collect information you provide, including account and profile details, instruments, self-described skill levels, musical interests and availability, profile photos, saved locations, jam listings, jam invitations, messages, safety reports, blocks, and support communications.
When you set up your account, we ask for your date of birth to confirm that you are 18 or older. Your date of birth is kept private: it is never shown on your profile or to other users, and we use it only to check your age. We also record when you accepted our Terms of Service, Community Guidelines, and Privacy Policy, and which version you accepted.
If you sign in with Apple or Google, we receive your name and email address (or an Apple private relay address) from that provider. If you buy a supporter badge or subscription, the purchase is processed by Apple, Google, or our web payment processor; we receive a record of the purchase through RevenueCat but never your card details. Supporter badges, including the level, are shown on your profile to other musicians who can see it.
When you choose a profile or jam photo, you pick it through your device’s photo library or camera, and only the photo you select is uploaded. Photos are sent to Google Cloud Vision for automated safety screening before publication. Photos that cannot be approved are not published. When you invite a friend from your contacts, you pick one contact through your device’s contact picker; their name, phone number, or email address is used on your device to open a text or email invitation and is not uploaded to or stored by Pickin’ Folk.
If you create a sponsor account, we collect your business name, website, contact email, and the ads you create, including their photos, text, links, and audience settings. Sponsor subscriptions are processed on the web by our payment processor through RevenueCat; we receive a record of the subscription but never your card details.
When you allow it, we collect device location to show nearby jams and venues. We may also collect device identifiers, notification tokens, log data, IP address, browser or device type, and general usage information needed to operate and secure the service.
When the app crashes or hits an error, it sends a crash report so we can find and fix the problem. A report includes the error and where in the app it happened, the screen you were on, the app version, and device details such as the model, operating system version, and available memory. Reports sent to our own servers include your account identifier when you are signed in, so we can investigate a problem you contact us about. In the iPhone and Android apps, crash reports are also sent to Sentry, our crash-reporting provider, without your account identifier; a crash that closes the app is sent the next time you open it. Crash reports do not include your name, email address, messages, or location, and we use them only to diagnose and fix problems.
2. How we use information
We use information to create and secure accounts; confirm that account holders are 18 or older; help you find, host, and manage jams; support musician connections, jam invitations, messaging, blocks, and notifications; personalize nearby listings; show sponsored content that fits your instruments, genres, and area; send you emails about your account and news, features, events, and offers from Pickin’ Folk; provide support; investigate safety concerns; prevent abuse; and improve Pickin’ Folk.
3. How information is shared
Profile and jam information is shared with other musicians according to the audience and visibility controls available in the app. Information may also be shared with service providers that support authentication (including Apple and Google sign-in), infrastructure hosting, maps, push notifications, payments and purchase management (Apple, Google, and RevenueCat), analytics (including Umami for website visitor statistics), crash reporting (Sentry), and database operations.
Sponsors receive only the aggregate ad totals described under Sponsored content, never personal information about musicians.
We may disclose information when reasonably necessary to comply with law, respond to lawful process, protect a person from harm, enforce our Terms, investigate abuse, or complete a business transaction. We do not sell personal information for money.
4. Location and communications
You can control precise location and push-notification permissions through your device settings. Think carefully before sharing a home address, live location, travel plans, or other sensitive details with a host or musician you have not met, and prefer public venues for first meetups. We do not verify the identity of the people you communicate with. Pickin’ Folk may retain messages, blocks, reports, and other safety-related records when needed for support, moderation, fraud prevention, dispute resolution, or legal compliance.
We may email you about your account, such as sign-in links, security alerts, and changes to these policies. We may also email you news, new features, events, and offers from Pickin’ Folk. In the United States these are on by default; elsewhere we send them only if you ask for them when you create your account or later. You can turn them off under Profile → Your data or with the unsubscribe link in every one of them, and doing so does not stop the account emails. Marketing emails come only from Pickin’ Folk. We do not give or sell your email address to sponsors or other companies for their own marketing, and sponsors cannot email you through the service.
5. Retention and security
We retain information for as long as reasonably needed to provide the service, maintain accurate jam and safety records, meet legal obligations, and resolve disputes. We use administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, but no internet service can guarantee absolute security.
6. Your choices
You may update profile information in the app at any time. You may request access to or correction of your information by emailing support@pickingpost.com from the address on your account. Some information may be retained when required for safety, security, legal, or recordkeeping purposes.
7. Deleting your account
You can delete your account and its associated data at any time, with or without the app. On iPhone, Android, or the web at pickingpost.com: sign in, open the Profile tab, and tap “Delete account.” Confirm to immediately disable your account and erase your profile and shared content. Uploaded files and sign-in credentials are removed through a retryable cleanup process, normally immediately and within 30 days if a provider is unavailable.
If you cannot sign in or no longer have the app installed, email support@pickingpost.com from the email address on your account with the subject “Delete my account.” We will confirm the request and delete the account within 30 days, usually much sooner.
What is deleted: your profile name, photo, and details; your date of birth and terms acceptance record; your musician profile; saved locations; friend connections and requests; blocks; jam RSVPs and invitations; and notifications and device push tokens. Anonymous usage statistics are not linked to your account and are not affected. Jams you host are cancelled. You are signed out of every device and cannot sign back in to the deleted account.
What may be kept: messages you sent are replaced with a deleted-message placeholder. Uploaded profile and jam photos are removed, and hosted jam descriptions and addresses are erased. Safety reports, moderation records, and purchase records may be retained for as long as needed for safety, fraud prevention, legal, tax, or accounting purposes. Active App Store or Google Play subscriptions are managed by Apple or Google; cancel them in your store account settings, since deleting your account does not cancel them.
Deleting a sponsor account deletes its ads, ad photos, and ad statistics. Before deleting, cancel each ad’s subscription from the Billing link on your sponsor dashboard, because deleting your account does not cancel it. Payment records are kept as described above.
8. Children
Accounts are for adults 18 and older, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If the date of birth entered during account setup shows that someone is under 18, we do not store it, and we delete the account and the sign-in details used to create it right away. A parent or guardian can bring children to a jam as guests; we record only how many guests are coming and whether any are under 18, not their names or other details. If you believe a minor has created an account, contact support@pickingpost.com and we will delete it.
9. Updates and contact
We may update this policy as Pickin’ Folk changes. We will post the revised policy and effective date and provide additional notice when required. Questions or privacy requests may be sent to support@pickingpost.com.
